He played games, made friends, everything a normal kid would do. In the small village he lived in, no one would give him a second glance as they saw the 10-year old boy play catch with his brothers and sisters. But although Mewse was pretty average from the outside, there was something about him that most people would agree is quite interesting. He was an angel. It ran in the family. His mom, dad, sister, brother, aunt, you name it. Sounds pretty cool right? Well, turns out there’s a downside. With so many family members before you, how can you live up to their legacy? That was what Mewse wondered day and night. He may have been small, but he has big plans. If only he could share his secret. Even though the tiny village was quite friendly, there was no doubt their neighbors would drive the family out if they knew their secret. When Mewse went to go get the groceries from the village market, he would hear whispers coming from the villagers, talking about the feared angel, and how much they would love to exterminate the species once and for all. It sent shivers down Mewse’s spine. He was glad that the satchel he held to hold the food was covering his budding wings. If they knew, he would be done for. Life was normal (well as normal as an angel’s life could be) for Mewse, until one cold evening. Mewse was playing outside with his best friend in the whole village, when he accidentally let his secret out. Now Mewse was innocent and naive, he trusted her. He didn’t let his parents know of his mistake, and completely forgot about it until the next morning. Mewse awoke to the sound of an angry mob outside. He sat up groggily, thinking that it was the day of the village festival or something. Then his mom burst through the door of his room, yelling at him to quickly pack his things. He shoved as much clothes and belongings as possible into his satchel that he used to carry food, and along with his family tried to flee from the back door. Since his wings were still growing, he couldn’t fly that well. His mother carried him as they flew off, the angry mob of villagers following close under. Then they started throwing rocks. Not big enough to cause serious damage, but big enough to make them crash. A rock the size of a baseball hit Mewse’s mother. His mother managed to stay in the air, but at a cost. She had dropped Mewse into the horde of villagers. His cries for help were drowned out by the triumphant yells of the mob. Mewse watched helplessly as his family flew away without him, because if they stopped to try to save him they would all die. The villagers tied him up and brought him to the town square. Mewse was tied up to a post in the middle of the open space. He saw the executioner of the village cleaning an axe. It was only a matter of minutes until it was time. He spotted his best friend standing near the village leader. He called out happily, glad that he could at least see a friendly face before he died. But his friend glared at him and turned away. Mewse was crushed. He decided to just lay down, because that was all he could do. I won’t go into the details of his execution, but it’s important to know that both his wings and head were cut off. His remains were buried near a mansion, a few miles away from the village. In that mansion lived an old witch, who was driven out of the village. The old witch felt bad for Mewse, and performed a spell that would bring him back to life as a ghost. Mewse now spends his time floating around, searching for his family. It has been several centuries since he has died, though. But he still looks for some proof that his family survived, be it ancestors, or stories of people who saw angels flying above them. He is a friendly spirit for the most part, as long as you don’t anger him he will leave you alone. Legend says he resides in houses with big families because they remind him of his long lost family.
