I've shared this with all of you in hopes of enlightening you on what Memorial Day is really all about. Memorial Day was first established after World War II as a way to mourn the soldiers who had sacrificed their lives. Before 1967, when Memorial Day was first called Memorial Day, this holiday was called Decoration Day. It was called this because people placed wreaths on their deceased loved ones in the military to honor them. In 1967, Congress approved Decoration Day as a national holiday, and Memorial Day was born. These soldiers who sacrificed their lives for people who they didn't even know gave us freedom. The ability to choose who we want to be and what we want to do in our lives. While you're enjoying your long weekend, please remember the people who fought for us. Draw your own flag!
