"Mooncloud, please," he warned, turning to face the ex-fighter as she sprinted up to him, panting. "Do not make me say it again." She glared at him for a moment before her expression softened. "Please," she begged, fear in her eyes. "Let me come with you. I don't want you to do this alone." He shook his head. "My kind have done things this way for centuries, far longer than any traditions your species has invented. If I do not do things this way, then I cannot do them at all." Her mouth opened to argue, but he kept talking before she could get a word out. "No, you are not coming with me, and that is final." His tail swished in irritation, and she noted his impatience to be off. Shivering in the sudden winter breeze that ruffled her fur and made it stand on end, she stared into his eyes, trying to convey her emotions to him without words. "I'll wait for you here," she finally said in a small, weak voice. "Mysterium, I--" He cut her off again. "I know. I feel the same way about you, too. When I return, we can discuss this topic further. But for now..." He glanced upwards, sighing as he stared into the void of space. "I must leave. There is no more time." As he rose to depart, she lept up and placed her paw over his. "Please come back soon," she whimpered, tears in her eyes. "I will, I promise." She watched him go, staring into the darkness after him a full ten minutes after he'd vanished from sight. Sighing, she sat down again, wrapping her tail around her paws to keep them warm, and stared up at the stars. "Please come back to me..."
