How Do I Start the Simulation? Press the space key. What Is This? This is a simulation where you can watch the cuttlefish swim around, they will occasionally change color! What Is A European Common Cuttlefish? Cuttlefish are cephalopods (related to the octopus, squid, and nautilus) with 3 hearts, W shaped pupils, color changing skin, and a donut shaped brain. The Common Cuttlefish is one of the most well known (hence its name) and largest, growing up to 3 feet! The average cuttlefish is only between 6-10 inches. The color changing you see in this simulation is a real ability of a cuttlefish- they can change to any color or texture in under one second. I highly recommend looking up videos of this. They are also highly intelligent with one of the greatest brain-to-body ratios of all invertebrates, with an intelligence that may exceed the octopus. The Common Cuttlefish can be found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
