Leapheart stared miserably down at the swirling waters below. She hadn't meant to be like that. All her grief over Blazepelt had come pouring out, and she'd hurt a clanmate's feelings in the process. As she raised a paw, hovering over the river, a spark lit inside. "No." Her meow startled a bird, and it flew from the undergrowth with a frightened call. "No!" Her heart pumped in her chest, and her fur ruffled as she howled at the sky. "StarClan, hear me now!" she yowled. "Please! Give me this chance! Maybe Blazepelt will never love me. Maybe my father is a fox-tongued, vile cat. But I'm not ready to join you yet!" The forest seemed to echo with the voice of her howl. "I swear, in my mother and brother's name, that I'm not done! I just need you to help me, please! Give me the words to say to Jumpfire!" A few moments passed, and then a whisper, the mew of an amused she-cat. "You always relied on your brain, Leapheart. Use it now." Leapheart turned and ran, her paws like feathers, floating above the soft forest floor.
