Coming back to Scratch 3 years later in 2018 is like Captain America unfreezing after 70 years and running into Times Square. I might be here for quite a bit now. Many of my old friends from 2015 (@Infernous, @skyset, to name a few) are gone, and I shouldn't be here either because I have college applications and piano competitions. Otherwise please let me know if any older scratchers are still around so I can drop by and say hello.
What brought me back to Scratch? First, math. I'm finishing high school with Linear Algebra and Calc IV, which have countless applications in computer programming. I do a lot of things with vectors in math, so I decided to come back to Scratch not only to test things out (before I finish learning Python), but also to demonstrate how you can make do with a rudimentary platform whose purpose is to simplify and introduce coding to young students. Second, also math. I began Scratch in 7th grade as part of an elective. The idea of programming and making games dragged me in, and through Scratch I learned how to make models and simulate effects using a lot of the mathematical equations and functions built in. Scratch is essentially the reason I have managed to quickly pursue mathematics and other related STEM interests. Scratch introduced me to math, and today I come full circle back to Scratch because of how far I got in math. For a short time I was also back here to practice on the game-building division of the National Science Olympiad. That's when I realized how much you can actually do with Scratch. Look at my actual projects and @griffpatch and you'll see what I mean.
