~Story Time~ "You know Lilac, there's something I've been meaning to ask you," Birchcloud said, watching the expression on her face shift from boredom to curiosity. "Really? Do tell!" Her eyes sparkled as she leaned a bit closer to him, and he could faintly smell lilac perfume on her fur. Trying to keep his composure, he focused on her face, his violet eyes filled with far more emotion than he usually expressed. "I...I believe I've fallen in love with you." Contrary to what he thought her response would be, Lilac simply stared at him for a moment, confusion quickly replaced by sorrow as she leaned back, averting her gaze. "I'm sorry, Birchcloud, but I have no feelings for you other than friendship." He sighed, letting his gaze drop to the ground. "There's someone else, isn't there?" he muttered. He wasn't angry with Lilac, nor did he blame her for not returning his feelings. He was simply asking the question to try and distract himself from the disappointment. "Y-Yes," she answered under her breath. "Someone that doesn't care for me in that way." "Then why chase them?" Birchcloud laughed at himself for his own hypocrisy, though to be fair, he hadn't known her feelings on the subject until just now. "Because love makes one do strange and wonderful things!" Lilac's eyes shone with passion. "And if they ever do love me back...that would be the happiest day of my life!" Birchcloud smiled a bit at Lilac's joy. It was contagious, it seemed. "I hope you two end up together someday," he finally said as he stood up and began to walk away. "It would bring me no greater joy than to see you happy." Lilac smiled back at him, even though she had tears in her eyes. "And I hope you can find someone who can make you happy!" He shook his head. "You were the only one for me. I'll just focus on making you and my sisters happy now. Seeing all of you happy will bring joy to me too." As he left the room, Lilac pulled out a small picture and glanced at it before hugging it to her chest. "One day, Bloodheart, we'll be happy together."
