Hey everyone! :D This is my leader/co-leader application for November SWC. When I pulled up in front of house 489, I was a little surprised. The house looked... very old. Almost abandoned. The wood on the front stoop was rotting and moldy at the edges, a dead houseplant right by the door. Ivy had attacked the uneven stone walls, and the rickety roof barely seemed to be standing up. And yet, all the houses surrounding it on the street looked brand-new, neat and modern. Why was this one so different? I walked up the front steps and knocked on the door. There was no answer. I saw a pile of bricks right at my feet. I hadn't seen them before. I stacked the bricks up and balanced on top of them, so I'd be able to see through a tiny window that was on the door. But all I could see was an empty room. I gave the whole place a once-over again. It seemed like no one had lived in it for years. Why had Ayden said that he did? A little freaked out, I decided to leave. But just as I started walked down the steps, I heard a loud creak, from inside the house. Alarmed, I went back to the window and saw something that hadn't been there before - a set of keys, and a framed photograph, although I couldn't see of what. "How...?" I thought to myself. I tried to push open the door to investigate. It opened easily, not being locked. Inside the house, every step I took on the unsteady floorboards made a loud noise. I cautiously walked to the middle of the room, where the framed photo and the three keys were. I saw that the photo was of a girl. She looked just about my age. That was when I heard a little chime from a different room, very quiet - almost inaudible. I sounded like it came from a music box. The tune it played was unsettling, an eerie, haunting melody that could have come out of a horror movie. I held my breath. "I should go..." I thought to myself. "This is getting creepy. I'll come back later." Without thinking anything else, I grabbed the photo and the keys, rushed out the door and biked home as fast as I could. (It sounds a bit creepier than the story really is. I'm not capable of writing anything scary xD)
