The tom is named Shadow. The she-cat is named Light. When they met, Shadow didn't know what to make of Light. He tried to attack her, but she stopped him and he could see that something about her was different. They fell in love, and eventually, she led him to a portal. She leaped through and Shadow, not wanting to lose her, ran after her, only to discover he had been going about it all along. She wasn't isolated from darkness; he was isolated from light.
