Lil spook warning. This charrie is Ryan McGuire. He's the last Shadowkeeper, aside from the Lord of Shades, who had corrupted and took over the Shadow Realm. When his face changes to the black whites, that's when he's exposing his Shadow Self, which is a Shadowkeeper's true form. He's scared to confront the Lord of Shades, but he's the only one able to defeat him. There's a reason the Lord of Shades had his legions of Shades (shown in the background) kill every last Shadowkeeper. Now, Ryan and his Shadow friends are working to defeat the Lord of Shades once and for all, before Ryan is killed by the man who made all of this happen. Ryan is a Junior in high school in my story, and he just happens to be the only person in the world remaining with the ability to travel between the two realms, direct the Shadows, and slay Shades to make them into his own shadows. Shadowkeepers are born without shadows, and as they grow into their powers, they learn to destroy Shades and add them to their shadow until they can truly blend in with the human population. Ryan is different, because he's the one in possession of the true Codex, which has been keeping his Shadowscent hidden and helps him to blend in with humans. The black under his eyes are his markings. There are more like these on his torso and back, but he keeps them hidden under his shirt. When he's using his powers, they start to glow brightly. Shadowkeeper weapons are usually related to their light's color.
