The alleyway was cold and dark. The cobblestones were like ice under Felix's paws. His silver fur glowed in the harsh light of the moon. Felix squinted in the cold light "Lucy?" One green eye opened in the darkness "What is it now?" a golden she-cat murmured from inside a cardboard box, sleep weighing down her words. "I- Lucy, I need to tell you something" He began hesitantly Lucy yawned and stretched, and the small golden bell on her collar jingled jovially. Felix's heart gave a pang. "Well?" Lucy asked, shaking out her fur. "I don't think we should be together anymore" Lucy's emerald eyes narrowed "And why is that?" "You deserve better" Felix murmured "I've thought about it a lot. All we do nowadays is fight" She nodded slowly and stepped out of the box, her fur was whitewashed in the moon's light. Her bell gave a distant tinkling sound "Felix, I can't believe you'd do that to me" "I-" "Don't apologize, Felix. I think you're right" a silver tear slipped down her cheek. She hastily wiped it away. Felix touched his paw to hers. One last time. "We- We can still be friends, right?" Lucy nodded "I suppose" Felix looked down "I'm going to miss this" "Me too" Felix felt hot tears threatening to pour over. He locked his gaze to hers. "Good night, Felix" "Good night, Lucy' Felix began to walk away. Lucy crawled back into the box for another sleepless night. The image of Felix's crooked grin searing into her mind.
