However, if you fall into a trap or you don't have the keys to open the door, you might have to restart the entire game. 12/26/18 - actually, you only need to go to the checkpoint if you get trapped :) P.S. Sometimes, you might get stuck in the wall or the ceiling. If that happens, you can press r and you can restart the level. If you are sinking into the ground, you can press space.
