Last changed: 3-21-19 Records last updated: 6-4-20 Changes: Expanded areas for development in August, September, October, November, and December, including the open Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. Reduced area for May development, excluding Eastern Caribbean, and June development, excluding most of the MDR. Expanded possible track directions at formation in all months. Added further checks to deter storms from reaching the Equator. (Erin 2109, I'm looking at you. You don't get to stick around an extra month by escaping off the map into the South Atlantic. Not anymore.) Minor tweaks to the process of rapid intensification. Made tracks of slow-moving storms more unpredictable. Fixed edge bugs. Slightly reduced tendency for anticyclonic loops. Fixed a bug that sometimes gave quickly intensifying depressions the wrong names when they reached TS strength (don't ask). Added EPAC SSTs. Crossovers are rare, but do occur. Prevented storms from forming on top of preexisting ones. Prevented storms from forming in January under rare circumstances, which would trigger other anomalous behavior. Added "records" section (scroll down). Some of the entries are just from memory and are probably inaccurate, but they're good enough for now. Updated names to account for 2018 retirements. Downsides and unfixable bugs: Storms with completely unrealistic tracks now form approximately 0.4 times per season. Fujiwhara interactions have not been improved at all, and storms can pass through each other sometimes. Depressions strengthening to storms in the EPAC receive Atlantic names. Months of dissipation are wrong in the logs for storms for which the month changes during their final post-tropical duration. In the unlikely event that two depressions form in one calendar year but strengthen into tropical storms in the next, they will receive the same name. ACE accumulated during January counts toward the season total, unlike in real life. Storms approaching, but not directly making landfall upon, islands do not reliably produce damage.
