• dear future self: reflecting on 2.0 • green flag x2 duration: about 4 minutes hello! i was recently watching a video that dodie posted on her channel, which was a "dear future self" of sorts, and i decided, why not do it too? this project is basically me reflecting from when i first joined scratch, back in july 2017, and the events that happened from that point on. enjoy! ⇢ since it's a recording of me, if you can't hear it or just want to read along, here is a transcript: (some words may be different) December 31, 2018, 13 years old. I have a fever, so my voice may sound a little horse. Hello! I was inspired by a video Dodie Clark had made, a ‘dear future self’ of sorts. Since 2019 and Scratch 3.0 are arriving soon, I decided to make a project about my Scratch story, from when I first joined. Around 2012, it was Bring Your Child to Work Day, and at my dad’s work, we had to partner up and create something on Scratch. I think it was 1.4, because I remember the stage on the right, though I can’t remember what my friend and I made. I do know it was fun. After that, I sort of forgot about Scratch, until March 2016, when we did it in class. I didn’t know anything about Scratch, and we had weekly classes. There were so many snow days that month, we only ended up having about two classes. In between the classes, I started using Scratch more and more with my friend. The classes stopped a month later, and my friend and I continued using it, mainly to play Adventures in Bayclan by Wildflight. Soon, summer break came, and I went to India to visit family. During then, I didn’t want to use the school accounts anymore, so July 13, 2017, I created cinnamon_bun_puff. I was so happy; I created my very own Scratch account! I saw an open MAP, but back then, I didn’t know what a MAP was or how to animate. I read the rules, and using those rules, I searched for some open maps for beginners. I eventually did, and when I asked the host for a part, I got it! To this day, I still remember making the part. I made the first frame, and I thought what to do next. so I duplicated it and made a minor change. I repeated that over and over until I finished my first ever animation! Making that was fun, so later, I joined more and more MAPs, which, if you haven’t noticed, sent a ripple effect. Around this time, I found the Studio for Pointless Rants, which I still rant in. soon the beginning of 7th grade came, and my friend moved from her school account to --Feather_Warrior--. During the first few months, my art style was so heavily based off of hers, you couldn't tell whose was whose. I created my FPC application around October/November. Then December came, and on the 21st, _MockingJay_ curated my project, The Stories of LightningClan, giving me my first curation! Thank you! Shortly after, during Winter break, Scratch Team accepted me as the 290th FPC! My shift ran from Sunday, January 29th, to Saturday, February 4th. Around mid-January, my friend moved to her current account, LilacSkiies. I had also shared my first completed MAP, for the song Believer, and it was my 100th project! By then school had started, and mid-February, scmb1 send me an invite to the Propose Projects to be Featured studio! Later in March, Lilac and I somewhat celebrated our 1-year Scratcheversary on our school accounts. In April, I celebrated my first April Fools on Scratch, where I think all the Scratch Team members flipped their icons upside down. Nothing much really happened in May, but in school, we were working on a project called What Would You Fight For, which was where we found a problem in the world and found a way to spread awareness about it. For mine, I did LGBTQ+ awareness, and since June was Pride Month, I shared my project then, which its first comment came from Leilani, and proposed to be featured! Although it wasn’t featured, it did give me my first top-loved project, along with a comment and favourite by Scratch Team member ceebee. Summer break came, and July 13, 2018, I celebrated my first Scratcheversary on this account, by creating a compilation of the MAP parts I had done, which was a lot, so I still haven't finished it yet rip. I also participated as a camper in Mystery in SWC for my first time that month. Nothing major happened in August, but school started in September, and I switched schools so I couldn't see my friend Lilac every day. We still chatted on Scratch. I came out as bisexual later that month to my friends! In November, I participated as a co-leader in Contemporary for SWC. December, nothing much, but also this! My time on Scratch for 2.0 had A LOT of events, and I can't wait to see what happens in 2019 and 3.0! Happy new year, and Scratch on! ⇢ press space/right and left arrow keys to see my art progress when i first joined scratch to now! ⇢ note: i am not leaving, this project is simply reflecting back on past events - - - - - art: me coding: me audio: me inspo: dodie clark
