===GENERAL WORLD INFORMATION=== In Alyria, there are four types of magic: = Dreamers - they can contact others via dreams, they can enter the Delusion, a dream dimension in which they manipulate reality = Scribes - they can control ink, for example bring things they draw on paper to be real or create ink protection "bubbles," or shields = Foretellers - they can see the future and can travel a couple minutes back and forth in time = Enlighters - they can control light, make illusions or, for example, change items' colours When you reach 15, you are tested for the strength of your magical powers. The test is called the Trials, and you can score maximum 27 points. If you get lower than 5, you are sent to the Abyss. The Abyss is a ginormous system of caves and mines, all gathered round the incredibly deep Central Shaft. There, you work as a crystal miner for the rest of your (short) life. Still, the failure rate is pretty low, about 71.6% people pass. ===THE PLOT=== Raye Hamilton is about to take the Trials. Her magic is, well, awful. But she's got hope that she'll pass, because she'd seen people with her potential get even thirteen points. But, on the other hand, her Foreteller uncle, Leo Hamilton, told her that she'd fail - family's there to help you, right? Still, she knows who will pass the Trials hands down. Idalya Silvers, her Scribe best friend. Raye is convinced that her powers are the greatest she'd ever seen - and she's right.
