TO THOSE OF YOU WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE: Please state that you wish to do so in the comments section below. Click the green flag to start the project! Right arrow, space, or clicking the screen will progress the slides forwards. Left arrow to go backwards. I also instruct you to note that non-linear means that the writing is arranged in a fashion such that the words are not and cannot be written linearly, or on lines. If you need inspiration, read "Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang. And even if you don't need inspiration, I still instruct that you read that. It's a great book.
Thanks to @ashtiegoarcher for the contest idea!! Slides and art all done by me on google slides and some art program that I don't remember the name of. For whatever reason, scratch has a bit of an issue with processing non-vectorized images and I can't find a decent vectorizer, so for those of you having trouble reading the slides on the project, I've inserted a transcription of all that the slideshow says below: SECOND ANNUAL CONLANGING CONTEST CHALLENGE: Nonlinear Writing Challenge Details You are to create, to the best of your ability, a conlang with a fully-functional nonlinear writing system. It is up to you how to interpret this, so be creative! You should also create a functional grammar to go along with this, and, if time allows, a simple lexicon. Points will be allotted for making choices that distance the conlang from English. That being said, you are more than welcome to use any existing language as inspiration. Know that the emphasis of the challenge is on the writing system, but you should be certain to flesh out the other aspects of the language, for this challenge is about conlanging, not just orthography-making. Submission Date - TBD Structure your submission in whatever way you wish, just be certain it can be understood by the judges. Rules - No ciphers or relexes - No stealing languages (I actually don’t know how you’d do this, but don’t.) - Submissions are accessible and in the form of a Scratch project - This is a purely recreational project, so have fun! Good luck, and happy conlanging!
