You are Bob the blood cell and you need to complete the cell cycle. INTERPHASE G1 & G2 During these stages, you are doing normal cell functions, in the game you navigate around as Bob using the arrow keys collecting ATP by running into it. INTERPHASE S During this stage, you are replicating your DNA. You collect uncoiled DNA strands and use ATP to convert the strands into duplicated chromatids by pressing the SPACEBAR. MITOSIS During this phase, you are completing tasks in the mitotic phase of the cell cycle by running into the green text and following the instructions in the game.
DESCRIPTION This is a recreation of the cell cycle where you play as Bob the blood cell, whose current goal is to complete the cell cycle. How to play the game can be found in the instructions tab and a description of the cell cycle can be found below. THE CELL CYCLE -------------------------------------------- INTERPHASE G1: Normal cell functions and replication of organelles. In this stage, the cell is growing rapidly and carrying out normal functions. This is where the cell spends about 50% of its time. S: The cell grows, replicates chromosomes, and replicates organelles. When the genetic information is duplicated, it’s packed into things called chromatids. All chromatids duplicated are identical, and two identical chromatids are held together by a single centromere. Each pair is called a chromosome, or duplicated chromosome. G2: Similar to the G1 stage, but in this stage, the cell is preparing for the mitotic phase also by storing genetic data aka chromosomes and ATP energy. MITOSIS Prophase: In this phase, the cell's nuclear membrane dissolves, the chromatids compact into chromosomes and spindle fibers begin to form. Metaphase: The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. Anaphase: The sister chromatids separate, the spindle fibers pull the chromatids to opposite ends of the cell and the cell lengthens. Telophase: In the final phase of mitosis, the cell forms a nuclear membrane around the chromatids and the cell begins Cytokinesis. CYTOKINESIS The cell divides from the membrane contracting, forming a furrow that gets smaller and smaller until the cell splits.
