The curtains were closed shut, giving the room a yellow tinted look. Detective Theo sat in front of a teenage girl as he took a sip from his coffee mug. “Cathryn Aherne, you’ve come as a witness to the disappearance of Wren Chambers?” Theo questioned in a gruff voice. Cathryn’s shoulders stiffened but she responded in a cool voice “Yep.” Theo’s hazel eyes scanned her. She had wavy black hair reaching below her shoulders that was neatly trimmed and brushed, and had clear pale skin. Her blue-gray eyes were pretty but had a cold look to them at the moment. She sat straight with her legs crossed, chin lifted slightly as if she was asserting some sort of dominance. Typical, Theo thought, for the daughter of a successful ex-actress. “What’ve you got?” He crossed his arms on the table and waited. Cathryn’s shoulders loosened and she responded “I saw Wren walking home after school.” With any other person, Theo wouldn't have bought it, thinking back to the other ‘witnesses’ who reported the same thing, but this one didn’t stutter or fumble over her words. She spoke with clear confidence. “Wren turned the corner and was confronted by a tall Caucasian male, about early twenties, thin but tall, and they both seemed agitated, and Wren yelled at him after a few minutes and walked the other direction. I think he may have played some role. He didn’t look familiar in this tiny town.” She flicked a piece of lint from her white button up shirt. She wore the shirt accompanied with an indigo sweater vest, and a black blazer jacket with the logo of Cesterfield’s private school emblazoned on it, and a beige short skirt. “What makes you think he did anything?” Cathryn kept a straight face but when she spoke, there was a tone of annoyance “I don’t know, but if you don’t think he played a role in this when he might have, there goes your shot.” Theo shook his head “A twenty year old hispanic male? You’ve described about a hundred guys here.” Cathryn scowled “Black straight hair swept to the left side that reaches his ear, seemed to have amber or brown eyes, he…” She looked up in thought “Well, that’s it.” After a long pause, Theo sighed “Thank you. We’ll look into it,” His eyes glanced from the door to Cathryn, which she felt was her cue to leave. She got up and dusted off her skirt “Have a good day, Detective.” She walked out. .+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.+*+.
