Once the dice was rolled, the nitrogen atoms moved into the soil. This is the first part of the nitrogen cycle. Nitrogen can only be used in living things when it combines with bacteria, as seen in the next part. FUN FACT- Nitrogen makes up 78% of dry air! The nitrogen atoms will move into the soil. To allow the nitrogen to move into living organisms, the atoms must combine with bacteria. Plants arise from soil where the filtered nitrogen will be held. As plants grow, the filtered nitrogen will enter the plant and helping the process of photosynthesis
