Click start. Each cell is turned on or off in each generation according to the state of its 8 nearest neighbors. The game will ask for a rule, which should follow the format described below. For Conway's Game of Life: If it has fewer than two or more than three active neighbors, it will be turned off. If it has exactly three active neighbors, it will be turned on.
A user-entered rule must follow the format "bXXXsYYY", where XXX should be replaced by the list of numbers of active neighbors (0-8) for which the cell is born, and YYY by the list of neighbors for which it survives, ex. "b3s23" for Conway's Game of Life. Other interesting rules to try: b3678s34678 (shows identical behavior if all cells are flipped) This simulation wraps around so that corresponding cells at the top and bottom edges are considered to be adjacent, as are those on the far left and right.
