Just start pressing keys (R, G, B, O, P) for different colored stars, pressing the space bar makes a rainbow star.
You can't make multiple stars at the same time. If you try to, the pen won't make a star, it will just go wherever it wants. Wait until the star is completely drawn out before you make another.
