Press the green flag to begin the animation! If it glitches from some reason or the timing is off, press it again. I made this before Scratch updated to 3.0, and I haven't fixed any errors that may have occurred from that, so that may also be the cause of the errors! ---------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: I made this video a couple years ago, so the information may be outdated by now! I'd suggest looking online on links that end in .edu or at reputable sources to find out more on bees! ---------------------------------------------------------- The information on bee hotels can be found through these links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9-gJuDgKnU https://thehoneybeeconservancy.org/2017/12/09/bee-hotels/ I'd like to thank you for watching! I created all of the art, coding, and animation within this project, and the voiceover is my actual voice. A huge thanks to my brother for editing and recording the sound to make it sound fantastic! If anything is factually incorrect in this project, please tell me in the comments! I came back to my scratch account to a ton of loves what happened? :O Thank y'all for watching this, this is amazing! Within this project, I redrew the Scratch Cat, Facebook icon, Twitter Icon, and YouTube icon, so credit to all of those sites for their icon. Here are the resources I used in my research on bees: https://thehoneybeeconservancy.org/why-bees/the-bumble-bee/ https://www.smithsonianmag.com/videos/category/science/slo-mo-footage-of-a-bumble-bee-dislodging-pollen/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaaQUGPXtnU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JilYBVrFiLA https://www.thebalance.com/bee-colony-collapse-disorder-facts-and-economic-impact-3305815 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqA42M4RtxE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9-gJuDgKnU https://thehoneybeeconservancy.org/2017/12/09/bee-hotels/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFEbwp7rPF8 Here is the script, for anyone who wants to read at the same time they watch: Bumblebees. With their “Buzz”, bright yellow colors, and affinity for pollinating flowers within gardens, it’s no surprise that they are known throughout the world. Bumblebees aren’t the only pollinators in the world, but they are extremely productive - they help billions of dollars of plants and produce reproduce every year! It may not seem it, but bees are incredibly important to our ecosystem and economy - Bees (in general) are estimated to help produce 70% of all planted food! Without bees, we’d be thrown into an apocalypse of sorts. Without bees spreading pollen to other plants to create more plants, the plants would be unable to reproduce. Without bees, many of our favorite flowers, fruits and vegetables would disappear, and thousands of humans would die. Without bees and the vegetation they help reproduce, a ton of livestock that eat that vegetation will die out too… That’s pretty scary, isn’t it? But what is even more frightening is the simple fact that hundreds of bees are dying at the very moment I’m speaking! There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is a terrible disease for bees called Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD. With this disorder, bees fly away from their hives and forget how to come back. When enough bees disappear from their hives, the hive will die. The second reason is insecticides. If you don’t know what insecticides are, they’re a spray used to kill insects. A commonly used insecticide is Neonicotinoid, and this worldwide spray is murder to bees - literally! Not only does this class of insecticide sometimes kill the bee outright, it also can be spread through contaminated water and nectar brought into the hive. Neonicotinoids harm the nervous system of the bee, and can make a bee so confused that they fly away from their hive and die. If you think those symptoms sound familiar to a disorder that I mentioned before, you’d be correct - it’s believed that neonicotinoids cause Colony Collapse disorder. So what can we do with this information? You could start a small backyard garden, and not use neonicotinoids on it. You could also create a bee hotel in your backyard - Links on why and how to do that are in the notes and credits! If you’re old enough, you could vote for people who believe in sustaining our ecosystem instead of neglecting various problems we as humans are creating in it. Most of all, you could attempt to spread the word of the bees to those you know. Create a scratch project, post something on your social media, film a video for your youtube account, or tell your family and friends - Spread awareness on this issue! If this problem is more widely known to everyone, perhaps more could be done about this tragedy.
