Heyawake (pronounced "hey-ah-wah-kay", meaning "divided rooms" in Japanese) is a logic puzzle genre published by Nikoli. A full tutorial on the rules of the genre is in the project. I highly recommend playing levels in order if you do not know Heyawake. [ GENERAL BOARD PLAY ] Click on cells once to turn them black (shaded), twice to turn them green (unshaded), and three times to turn them back to white. White cells are counted as unshaded when checked, but logically, it means that you do not know if they are shaded/unshaded. You can drag over multiple cells to color multiple at the same time (note you can drag all types of cells - black, green, and white). [ RULES ] Here are a visual guide to the rules: https://puzz.link/rules.html?heyawake Solutions are checked against the rules in the following order: - There must be a shaded cell on the grid - Shaded cells cannot be adjacent (directly touching) - The unshaded cells must all be connected, contiguously - The number of shaded cells in a region must be equal to the number in the region, if a number is given - Unshaded cells cannot continue in a line through 3 regions. In other words, a line of unshaded cells cannot cross 2 thick borders. [ AUTOCHECK ] If all cells are shaded black or marked unshaded (green, not white) and the solution is valid, then the stage will complete without having to manually press check. [ TRIAL MODE ] Use trial mode to create a save state and test a hypothesis. To use it, click "TRIAL", then place some shaded/unshaded squares on the grid. For example, if a region can be placed in two different ways, use a trial to see if placing it in one certain way leads to a contradiction, then you can reject the trial. Then you know the region must be placed in the other way. Another way you can use the trial mode is on a particular cell to determine if it must be shaded or unshaded. The pink square shows what your initial guess was for trial mode to aid in solving.
