Creatures start out with five random "genes" that control speed on the edge, turning on the edge, turning when touching food, general speed, and general turning. Every generation only the top five get to reproduce creating two copies of themselves each. The copies may be slightly mutated from their parent. You can kind of keep track of them based on their color which would technically be polygenic as it is influenced by every gene. I plan to make more simulations but with different rules/mechanics. Probably one with sexual reproduction because this one is asexual.
