(Reuploaded and updated with new art; the old art is still in the project but oh my god,,, it is almost a full year OLD; it's from late May-June 2019) @howlfreeplease currently owns the design Backstory: (Short version) Petrichor was orphaned at a young age, and ended up being taken in by a tyrannical dragon (currently unnamed), due to her inability to have children of her own. This controlling she-dragon’s plan was to make a proper successor to the lands she had pried from the claws of opposing nations; and in addition to this, she had intentions to use otherworldly forces to help her reach her goal.Other than training purposes, Erimus, an appointee to the she-dragon, was left to care for Petrichor. Over time, Erimus and Petrichor bonded (especially after the incident in which she got her scar, as well as public outings afterwards), and Erimus began to realize the true severity of their situation. He told Petrichor of his plan, which was to confront her somewhere away from the mainland, while Petrichor gets as far away from the kingdom as possible. She doesn’t like this idea at all; Erimus is basically the one true dragon that she was able to rely on. Reluctantly, Petrichor agrees, and Erimus gives her a brown cloak in order to hide her colors. However, the next day, while the plan is in action, Pertrichor stops in the midst of a forest; she realizes she’s basically sent her closest friend to a death wish. She ditches the plan, and begins to run towards the fight. When Erimus comes into view, bloodied and being pinned down, Petrichor charges towards her adoptive ‘mother’ and the collision sends them both off the cliff where the fight occurred, and into the gorge. With a sudden burst of adrenaline, Erimus manages to soar down and knock Petrichor out of danger’s way, accelerating the tyrant’s and Erimus’s dive towards the ground. Although the tyrant dies from her neck being crushed, Erimus passes out from blood loss. Panicked, Petrichor lifts him up, and carries him towards a nearby village, effectively leaving her past behind. Notes: Because of the scars on her face, Petrichor wears her mask as a way to hide them and comfort herself. She seems to become easily distressed without wearing it, especially around crowds or groups of other dragons. The mask was a gift for Petrichor from Erimus after he noticed her distress when walking through the town one day, a few days after the incident. Petrichor eventually ends up as a dragon medic in a small haven before the events of the main story. [God I love Vashti Bunyan]
