I never got to do a My Reaction To Spark 1 back in 2017; purely because I never had the time to. Which is a shame because I really liked it, and it's a shame that it didn't get the amount of attention it deserved. For those of you who don't know, Spark the Electric Jester was a Sonic inspired game created by Lake Feperd. If that name sounds familiar, it's because he also made the Sonic fangame Sonic After the Sequel among others. Despite it getting very positive reviews though, it didn't do all that well on Steam. However, that didn't stop Feperd from making a sequel which just came out last month. I decided I wasn't gonna wait until too late to review this one just like I did the last one, but I still highly recommend you play Spark 1 if you're a Sonic fan, or just a fan of action platformers in general. It's a great game. Now on to Spark 2. What's really weird about this game is that it's mainly about Spark's robotic double Fark (clever, I know). What's also weird is that where the first Spark was mainly inspired by 2D Genesis styled gameplay, this game is a 3D game mainly inspired by Adventure styled gameplay. A surprise change, but a welcome one at that. A major problem I had when I first started the game was that the frame rate was awful and the controls were very laggy. Luckily though, you have the option to adjust the graphics of the game and once I've done that, it controlled very well, at least for a 3D game on Steam (it's recommended that you use a controller for this game, but I didn't do that, I just used my keyboard). The game is basically Spark 1 but in 3D. You run to the end of the goal fighting all sorts of robots along the way. Fark is able to do normal attacks, a charged attack like Mega Man X that can be even more powerful by filling up a gauge, dash, homing attack, and block enemy attacks and obstacles. He's also able to use various different types of weapons such as swords, hammers, and elemental weapons similar to Kirby Super Star. As for how the game looks and sounds, it's very good. The game looks very good, and again, you can adjust the graphics to make it look even better for the cost of frame rate. As for the music, it's incredible! The music in Spark 1 was easily the best part of the game and this is no exception. This is coming from a guy who was even recognized by Jun Senoue after all. One other issue I have though is the time penalty. Yes, it is common for games to penalize players who take too long; but the problem with this game is that the time limit is five minutes! After that, it will slowly drain your score until you're at 0. I know this is supposed to be a speed-based game, but these levels are too long to beat in five minutes. Either that or I just suck at the game. In conclusion, Spark the Electric Jester 2 is really good! It uses elements from Spark 1 and Sonic Adventure styled gameplay to deliver a great 3D action platformer. People have been begging Sega to make a Sonic Adventure 3, but this game is a good substitute until they actually do.
Spark the Electric Jester 2 is owned by Lake Feperd.
