CHARACTER WRITING TIPS: ***Remember, people are complicated. You may have a warrior who is fearless on the battlefield, but terrified of talking to girls! ***Having trouble coming up with names? Baby-name websites are fabulous for that! ***When writing a story, make sure your character changes over the storyline! Static characters are boring and unrealistic. ***Give your character flaws! Nobody's perfect, and the same should apply to fiction. Your characters should all have fears, struggles, and downsides. ***Make your characters memorable. If you introduce a character early in the story, you want your readers to recall who they are later on. So, try to keep your characters unique. ***What motivates your character? Nobody does things for no reason. Is your character in love? Are they obsessed with money? Why do they do what they do? ***Do your research! If the character has a hobby, make sure you understand that hobby. If you character lives in a certain place, try to get the weather and culture accurate to that location! ***Avoid using stereotypes. They don't improve a story. A better character is someone who challenges your readers' preconceptions. ***Show, don't tell. Instead of saying "Bob got angry and left," say something more like "Bob clenched his teeth. With a huff, he slammed his books into his backpack and stormed out of the room." All by yours truly! The personal traits pick from two lists of opposites. Most negative traits are in the second list, but not all traits in the second list are negative. made for the featured studio "Writing Tips" kind of a filler tutorial but hopefully a very useful one If you liked this, you may also enjoy my Random Video Game Idea Generator!
