ABOUT: Dolores lives in a world surrounded and built on the magical works of people who came before. Majority of the population live in colourful tents and small makeshift housing while the royals live in a grant castle (similar to that of the DreamWorks movie 'Egyptian Prince"). The royals always need a high sorcerer/sorceress who is given a life of luxury and power, however, magic is slowly dying out as less and less are able to master it. The high sorcerer/sorceress has to be highly trained and usually goes into said training at a very early age. Over time, many of them drop out and the pool of contestants gets smaller and smaller. Weirdly, after a sorcerer or sorceress is chosen. They are seldom ever seen again by the people of the town. Despite the strange circumstances, every year a new one is chosen and one more person disappears. STORY: Dolores stared at the crumpled map in her paws and the journals scattered across her desk, a wave of anxiety washing over her. She walked over to the window and gazed at the sand dunes, dipping and rising, and coloured tents and stalls as far as the eye could see propped up against the harsh winds. She turned back to analyse the map before a brisk knock at the door interrupted the silence. A group of cats burst through the door, all wearing white covering their face and body. “Good evening Miss Dolores, we are here to collect and withhold all current research surrounding the recently found unknown map and journals. Any struggle or resistance to hand over the desired objects will result in immediate extermination” Everyone crowded the small room making the air suffocating and solid. Grabbing the nearest bag in sight Dolores scooped the map and journals into it and ran toward the window, unlatching it in seconds before jumping out onto the desert floor. She didn’t dare look back as she heard the intruders yowl and thunder after her. Ducking through stalls and streets it seems like she shook them off of her trail. While glancing side to side and running she bumps into a familiar face, Alya. “ALYA!” “thank god you’re here there are some people trying to take the findings! You’ve got to hide me. Please!” Dolores glanced at Alya, wide eyed and panicked. That was when Alya shook her head and stared at the ground. “I’m sorry Dolly…I can’t let you ruin my one chance at becoming the high sorceress” Dolores dodged a swipe from Alya before sprinting out of the town as fast as possible. She ran until her breathing turned into gasps and wheezes. Sliding down into a small ditch Dolores gazed at the castle now far behind her, glimmering and shining in the heat of the setting sun. It towered over the poverty-stricken towns and was such stark contrast it would be hard to believe they came from the same world. The journal, map and scrolls lay scattered out of the bag as Dolores curled into a tight ball, she stared at the sunset with tears in her eyes. “…see you later Akardos” she mumbled before falling, exhausted, into sleep.
