Recap: Jesse gets taken to Limbo, the world of death, and a shade says that she cannot leave. But I want to leave, thought Jesse. I can’t die without seeing my family again. I don’t want to become a shade, with their raspy voice and black, ghostly skin. I don’t want to become one of them. I don’t want to be stuck here forever, in this bottomless pit of doom and despair. My whole life, I never thought I deserved to die alone. I thought that I would become a famous model, with millions of fans that would be filled with despair at me death, leaving gifts on the top of my grave, like flowers and notes. I never thought I would end up in a world like Limbo, trapping me so I can never leave. I started crying. I cried myself to sleep. When I woke, I was burning, like I was directly over a fire. When I looked down, I realized I actually was. I had been stolen from my kidnapper, and I was being burned to death under a fire. I tried to scream, but my lips were covered with a sticky tape around my mouth. Then a shade whispered in my ear. “You never, ever, should have come here, little Fleshie. Limbo is no place for the living. So now, you may join us as a shade, and live in Limbo, forever. I squeezed my eyes shut. I could feel the burning rushing through my body, turning me slowly into ashes. I had never felt so much pain in my life, the feeling of being burned to death. But when all seemed lost, and I could hardly continue breathing, I heard a voice. It was soft and kind, loving and sweet. It said: “Don’t worry, sweetie. Everything will be just fine.” And then I couldn’t feel my body anymore.
