READ: Chapter 1 As I trudged through the forest, I stopped when I saw saw it, the water vole. The one that would earn me my warrior name. I needed only this one rodent to earn my name. My sister would be here but she decided to be a medicine cat and use herbs to heal others, even though without warriors there would be no prey and cats to protect from other clans. I chose the path of a respected warrior. I leapt for it and caught it in-between my paws. I gave it the final killing snap to the spine and the vole went limp. ~~~ I walk into the camp to see everyone look back at me and cheer “Yay! A new warrior!” This was the best experience since I was made an apprentice, and I just wish my sister was here to cheer me on, but she was to busy collecting herbs. Once I was comfortable in my nest Mintstar called a clan meeting. “ All cats old enough to catch their own prey, join beneath Highledge for a clan meeting.” Wearily, I stomped into the clearing near the rock that Mintstar was standing on. I plopped down near one of my loyal friends that had just become a warrior, Dawncloud. She and I had been denmates ever since we were foolish kits. As I sat there staring into space she said “ So… did you complete your final assessment? ” I didn’t know how to describe my emotions with words so I gave her a smile long enough to stretch over the lake to RiverClan territory. Of course since we were close enough to be littermates, she knew what that meant. “We gather here today to name a new warrior, Vixenpaw please step forward.” as I walk over towards Mintstar I stop, and look back at Dawncloud and she whispers “It’s okay, you can do it.” and suddenly I feel reassurance. Slowly and calmly I stroll up to her and stand close to my mentor, Mapleleaf. “ Do you promise to hold the warrior code to your heart until and after you join StarClan?” I think about her question and say “I do.” I reply. Mintstar looks questionably ( Probably because I was never born in the camp, even though I have heard the day my littermates came here was the day a she cat named Ashstorm went missing. ) and she says “ Then from now on in memory of your mentor Mapleleaf, since you will be her last apprentice I give you the name of Vixenleaf.” I knew there was nothing wrong with my mentor but my clanmates say she was in a great battle and hurt her back legs, so that is why her left hind leg dragged behind her. “Vixenleaf! Vixenleaf! Vixenleaf!” I heard Dawncloud cheering the loudest. Compared to the rest of the clan she was like the wind roaring over the grass in WindClan territory. The rest of my clan was as silent as the nursery at moonhigh.
