Challenges can range from boss battles, side quests or they may even use a previously introduced mechanic. One thing to always include is risk to make the reward better; speaking of which... - Finally, you need to reward the player. This is the time that your player receives that chemical in their brain called dopamine which makes them feel like they've accomplished something. This is very important as this is what makes the game 'fun.'
