USE FULLSCREEN WHEN VIEWING FOR THE <*MAXIMUM*> EXPERIENCE. Push the flag, but do NOT hit the stop button. If you do, the sprite that is used as a "light filter" will lose its transparency and block the screen. Use headphones if you want to listen to the background music (credit to this in the notes section). #art #fanart #over-the-hedge #artwork #rj-and-heather
>Characters: RJ the Raccoon/Heather the Opossum. >Source: "Over the Hedge" 2006 movie. >Music: "The Saltwater Room" (Maybe I'm Dreaming Album) - Owl City VVVVVVVVVV_SCROLL DOWN_VVVVVVVVVVV Artwork made completely from scratch (no pun intended) in Scratch. This is really my first attempt at an art project. Not sure if I'll do more of this type of work, might just have to wait and see if I feel like it (Update: I did feel like it). Also, I uploaded this to DeviantArt because I felt like it: https://www.deviantart.com/cj33333/art/RJ-And-Heather-1-A-Summer-s-Rest-OTH-850789766 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE LOG (Mainly for myself to see): 5/28/20: First Posted 6/1/20: Various overall improvements (smoother color shading, better outlines in certain areas, adjusted the size of RJ.) 6/7/20: VERY slight improvements (they were super small details but were seriously bugging me) 7/3/20: Smoothened the outlines on both characters 7/18/20: More smoothening and improvements on both characters. 7/20/20: Color scheme adjustments 7/26/20: Extra color adjustments 5/28/21: 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In terms of the actual artwork, it mostly utilized pre-made shapes like circles and straight lines and barely used any free-drawing (the only times I used it were for RJ's tail to give it a more "furry" feel to it and for the grass). The drawing is broken up into multiple sprites for ease of editing access. There are actually 2 variants of sprites for both characters: the outlines of the characters and the color filling. The outlines are made completely in Vector, using curves from circles and straight lines to create the body shapes. The color filling of both characters took the sprites of the outlines and converted them into Bitmap in order to go pixel-by-pixel and fill in the colors (the exception is part of Heather's tail, which is a different story). It made creating different colors inside the characters much easier. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADDITIONAL NOTES: I began the project by creating the basic shape of the characters and added the smaller, extra details, such as fur texture, later. Finally, I filled the scene in with color, which took a bulky portion of the time to find shades of colors I was satisfied with. Eventually, I settled on adding a separate sprite that would always be in the foreground as a "light filter," darkening the entire scene to give it more of a nighttime feel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment with constructive criticism or suggestions on how to improve the quality of the artwork and I may occasionally update this accordingly. However, the only things I can see myself improving are minor details, as I am very satisfied with this work personally. Thanks if you actually read this entire section :P
