WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR AGES TWELVE AND BELOW FOR: MILD VIOLENCE! Introduction Josh looked up and down the muddy road, waiting for the rain to disperse. He should be here by now. What was taking him so long? Josh looked down at his brother Timothy by his side, innocent and loving. The child's brown cloak fitted closely around his waist and arms, but was quite spacious at the hood. With the cloth drawn back exposing his ruffled blonde hair, Timothy peered up at his older brother through soft green eyes, seeming smaller than usual. "Is he coming?" Josh smiled, rubbing the child's head in a playful sort of way. The rain continued its constant patter against the smudged ground. "Sure he is. It won't be long now." Josh's smile faded as he looked away, expression turning into something of a grim worry. If Eric didn't show up soon, something was bound to attack. He didn't know why, or how, but deep down he felt a sense of dread. The sense that something was stalking him, slowly closing in as time ran short. "I feel it too." The child whispered, burying his face in Josh's side. "Don't worry. I won't let anything get too close." Dark clouds still hung overhead, partially blocked from view due to the withered tree hanging just above the two. Few but many drops of water trickled through, dimming Timothy's light hair to a dark brown. Several moments later, his eyes lit up with startled fear. His finger shot towards a bush a good distance away, but nothing too far. "There it is! Over there!" "Are you sure?" "I saw it! I swear!" Josh closed his eyes, drew in a deep breath, and let a spiked chain slip out from his sleeve. It continued to fall in a coiled stack, until he firmly grabbed hold of the ending piece. "Get behind me." Slowly, the boys searched the landscape for the beasts that hungered for their flesh, soul, or the very state of living. A deep moan broke the half silence, cutting through the downpour with unbeknownst intent. Timothy spun about as a similar, but more maleficent, noise came from behind. "Calm down, they're trying to scare and confuse us. Hold your ground. It will be ok." Out of the storm emerged several beings, pale in the sunless morning. They were humanoid monsters that had no head, replaced by a thick trunk-like neck that moved in slow but flexible retractions and twists. At the end of this strange form of body stood a large mouth covered in jagged teeth, like an elephant that could directly eat with its nose. A single eye sat in the middle of the chest, a foot long at least. There seemed to be four, though Josh guessed five as he swirled his chain about, putting it in a more maneuverable position. "They're not that strong." He reassured his younger brother, shivering in the cold. "Just a little spooky that's all. They can't hurt us." Some of the monsters stopped, forming a neat circle around them. Through their tattered clothes and exposed chests, huge eyes stared at the two, unblinking and strangely curious. Both brothers stood their ground. "One step closer and I'll slash them." Josh whispered. "Get ready. On three. One, two- Oh t-!" Knocking the younger boy to the ground, he dived to the side as an arrow found its way right to the heart of where they were standing. Two more arrows followed, clear misses; yet a third had to be met with his spiked chain in order to guarantee their survival. Only one left, crossbow in hand was armed, who aimed with its extended hairy arms and steady grip. Like a whip, Josh flicked back the chain, and snapped it forward onto the creature. The crossbow was demolished, the bottom of the beast's frayed trunk now covered in splattered orange. It made a slight hand movement towards the damaged area, then fell forward into the mud. With the chain still sailing through the air, another trunk was caught in the whirl of metal, severing it halfway through in an upwards scrape. Quickly, Josh forced the chain downwards in its continuous movement, bashing a creature against the road to death. Two armed monsters came out from the bushes. Neither brother had the breath to question their strange numbers aloud. Timothy yelped when he felt an arrow brush by his side, a near miss that would normally have been deadly. In response to this action, Josh flicked his wrist so that his chain caught one beast square in the eye. Orange splashed everywhere like sap gushing from a tree. Stronger, harsher now, he sent a pair of horrors to their demise with a jarring crack against a tree. The remaining two attempted to flee, but Josh caught one, knocking it into the other. They fell with a loud thump, surrounded in a pool of repulsive orange. Another almost silence. The rain landed on the ground with small pattering sounds, accompanied by the older boy's heavy breathing. Orange ooz leaked from the creatures, washed away in the rain. "See? It was all over in a flash." Timothy looked at him
