this is a reconstruction of the m1897 trench shotgun (hellfighters). the m97 was a weapon used by the harlem hellfighters and other trench units, it was fast firing, effective in close range, and powerful, m97 saw a lot of action in world war 1, and a little in ww2. it held 5 rounds and could rapidly be reloaded. the german accused the americans of doing war crimes because "shotguns were to brutal" even though the germans used mustard gas
