You hear quiet whispers within the shadows and a swipe of a claw could be seen along with a whisper. “Shh, Styx! They’re here.” Two eyes flickered open, and another pair opened up as well, and out slithered two black and red mutated-looking snake-like creatures. You back up, startled with the appearance. “No, no, don’t be afraid! You were sent here to hear a story, right?” You nod slowly, confirming the beginning of the story. You soon learn the names of the creatures, the owner of the first voice was named Blayde, and the second one that was scolded was named Styx. “So how we became like this, that’s a bit of a, uh..” The two exchanged a look. “Interesting topic.” Styx gave a grin, piling up like a snake and flicking out a forked tounge. He began speaking once again. “A few years ago... Actually, maybe even 15/16 years ago, we lived in this place where there wasn’t a ton of light, and not much food. Everyone there was fairly poor, but we were happy as long as everyone was together.” Styx stirred a bit, informing his brother that it was his turn to continue the tale. “When I was about... 19, and Styx was 17, this traveling circus or something came through, exciting most everyone there. Though they were poor, and couldn’t do much, they were given the opportunity to explore when the ‘Circus’ set up for the week. “The ringmaster was not as kind as everyone thought... He planted some sort of concoction that caused our food source to shrivel up and die, but nobody knew the cause of it. And anyone who would question the circus of doing it was found mysteriously dead the next day.” Blayde shook his head sadly at the thought of it. “And any food that did survive and was consumed turned them into some corrupted creature. Like us,” The two replied at the same time, gesturing down at themselves. “Eventually, the Circus was driven out of town and some us mutants went into hiding.” Styx stood up straight, colors flooding up, showing blues, red and whites in different shades, then Blayde did the same. You are amazed at this story, but sad at the same time. “I’m sorry to hear that...” You say quietly to them. Blayde tilted his head slightly. “It’s not your fault.” CRASH "What the heck is that??" Styx exclaims, slithering out of the cave, his brother following. You follow the brothers outside as well. T.B.C
