So the new trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie just came out. This trailer showed the new redesign for Sonic among other things. If you haven't been keeping up with the Sonic Movie news, after the backlash that the original trailer received, Jeff Fowler, the director of the Sonic Movie, announced on Twitter that Sonic was going to be redesigned; however this would also mean that the movie would be delayed to Valentines Day 2020. Now the new trailer has come out showcasing Sonic's new design. So here's my thoughts on the trailer: it was incredible! Sonic himself looks leagues better than the original design. He looks almost exactly like how he does in the game. He still has the separate eyes rather than the one big eye, but they're bigger and with white fur in between, so it gives the impression that he has one big eye. In my opinion, this is exactly what I wanted! He still has two separate eyes, but it still manages to look like Sonic. He also has gloves now instead of those weird gremlin hands from the original trailer. His shoes are now basically the same as in the games. His teeth are no longer realistic; which was a major complaint fans had. He still has blue arms, but to me, I never really minded the blue arms. To me, this is a perfect combination of every design Sonic has had over the years. It has a bit of Classic, Modern, and even Boom design in it. I'm very happy with this new design, and I much prefer it over the original movie design. Jim Carrey as Robotnik is also really good. He really gives it his everything in this performance, and goes back to his classic 90s Jim Carrey wackiness that I know and love. The story itself is alright. The story is that Sonic escapes his home planet and goes to Earth because people on his planet were always trying to get a hold of his powers. Now he has to escape from the military and Dr. Robotnik with the help of his new friend Tom in order to prevent Robotnik from capturing Sonic, and using his power to take over the world. It's seems to be a simple buddy cop action comedy and its really cheesy, but in my opinion, it's so cheesy that it's kind of charming. I was against the whole "Sonic goes to Earth and befriends a human" plot, but now it's kind of appealing to me. Even the music is better. No more Gangster's Paradise. There's even a Green Hill Zone remix in the beginning, which is much appreciated. Overall, I think this trailer is a HUGE improvement from the original trailer. Sonic looks a lot better, the music is better, it has great jokes, it has great action scenes, it has great acting. I can't wait to go see this movie, and I highly suggest you go watch this movie when it comes out to support the amazing team responsible for this movie for putting the time, effort, and dedication to make this movie the best it can be.
