Ummm... so her background and origin story... here: So, she was kidnapped as a young foal, and forced to work at the Rainbow Factory. When she tried to escape because she hated to work there, they caught her again. As punishment they gauged out her eye. (Gory, I know.) But, She was finally able to overcome her captors, and still lives to tell the tale. And if you can't tell, she tried again to escape again. So they tested a happiness suck machine on her. It drained her of happiness. When she tried again, her color went away.
