1. Sunshine State Standard: MA.2.A.4.1 Extend number patterns to build a foundation for understanding multiples and factors - for example, skip counting by 2's, 5's, 10's. GLE: Standard 2 (MA.A.2.1): The student understands number systems. 1. understands and applies the concepts of counting (by 2s, 3s, 5s, 10s, 25s, 50s), grouping, and place value with whole numbers between 0 and 100. 2. Grade Level: 2 3. Purpose: The educational purpose of my project is to have students practice counting by 3s to develop connections between numbers. To win the game, students must get a total of 5 “honey” points. When they catch a pot with a multiple of 3, they get 1 point. However, if they catch a pot with a number that is not a multiple of 3, they lose a point. I decided to incorporate the negative points in order to make the game a little more challenging. The student purpose, or authentic purpose, is for students to help Winnie-the-Pooh get more honey pots, because he ran out. The beginning “scene” sets the stage before the game actually starts. This is important, because it gives the students a task and context for the game. I also chose to use Winnie-the-Pooh (and Tigger), because these are characters with which students are familiar. Therefore, they can relate to purpose of the game.
