Mitosis is the duplication of Cells. In Mitosis there are 4 main phases: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase. ... Today I will be explaining Mitosis, which means how cells duplicate and split. Before Mitosis is a stage called Interphase, which is when the cells duplicate their DNA and get ready for Mitosis, the actual splitting of the cell. Mitosis includes 4 main stages called Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and telophase. The first part is Prophase, where the DNA formes into chromosomes with protein and move to opposite sides of the nucleus. Also, in Prophase the spindle fibers and centrioles form a bridge at the ends of the cell as the nuclear envelope breaks down. The second part is Metaphase, which is when once the nuclear envelope breaks down, the chromosomes line through the middle of the cell and the centromeres ( chromosomes center) attach to the spindle fibers. Also, the ends of the spindle fibers are called centrioles. The next part is Anaphase, which is when the centromeres separate into two chromatids, and then each chromatid becomes a new chromosome. The chromosomes move to the opposite sides of the cell and push the cell membrane. The last stage is Telophase when a new nuclear envelope surrounds each region of chromosomes than the chromosomes relax into chromatin and the cell pulls apart into two cells. So this is Mitosis which the parts can be memorized as PMAT.
