The sound of yowling cats struck the air like lightning. His mother had rushed him into the nursery the second the enemy cats had come flooding into the camp. Lionkit could see nothing dark all around him, hear nothing but the sound of cats in pain and fighting for their lives. He sniffed around the dark den, but froze after a few seconds of his examination. His mother's loud screech filled the air. He had to save his mom! Lionkit began scratching frantically at the side of the den. Spottedkit, his sister, hissed softly at him and tugged him down from the wall. He hissed loudly and angrily at her as swiped at her face then continued to scratch at the wall Finally the edge of the den gave way and he tumbled out of the den and hit the ground with a soft thud. She was laying motionless in the middle of the battlegrounds. He saw the fighters and the loners, that had rushed into the camp, battling. He also saw the many of the healers caring for the injured fighters. He looked over to see his mom. There she was! He stood frozen to the spot his gaze fixed on his mother. A loner as black as night stood over the body While blood welled from her wounds and pooled around his mother. There was a long deep gash down her stomach. The loner that stood over her body ran at him and Lionkit screeched. He turned to run but was suddenly lifted by the scruff and carried out and away from camp. He looked down at the legs of his kit-napper. They were long and like the midnight sky that surrounded him. Lionkit looked to face the cat. Her face was a black as her legs were, her eyes were a cold, haunting blue. The cat stared into his and their eyes narrowed. The black cat laughed. A dark deep and eerie laugh almost like a cackle. The evil laugh was stretching, it kept going and going. Then the cat’s face was bending and twisting and…!
