If any traveler of any kind wants to get anywhere quickly, this is the place to go. Keeper can't really speak, you don't hear their words like you would hear a voice, they are more of a ringing in your head, a voice that radiates power, but not cruelty. Keeper can't let just anyone through, though, that defeats the purpose of their job. They use their second set of eyes, the lower, smaller ones, to measure the amount of good in a traveler. If the amount of good is too low, they have no choice but to make the traveler turn back.
Small story: (this is from the POV of a random traveler) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I approached the gates wearily, before them sat a figure, the gatekeeper. As i drew nearer the keeper stood and gazed at me silently. "I request passage to the world of Addolyn" I say, watching their tail flow, it seemed as if it held entire galaxies. "very well" the voice resounds in my head, "follow me". They lead me through the gate into an area that is entirely different from the rock we were standing on before. "that's not a gate," I mutter to myself, "that's a portal". "that is true," their voice interrupts my thoughts, "this is not a single plain, or a plain at all for that matter. Welcome to the portal void, a place with no laws of shape or being." The keeper leans down and mutters something incomprehensible, suddenly a key from one of their many bangles detaches itself and floats to one of the squares of color. The key slides cleanly into a nearly invisible key hole and the door opens, expanding so that I can fit through. I step through the doorway and turn long enough to smile at the gatekeeper before they disappear from view. (~190 words)
