Emily Everett knew what she had to do. Her youngest daughter, Hope, was the only one of three that hadn't been to a real school yet, as her other daughters had both gone to high school, and one was even in college. Of course, they all remembered their father, even though he disappeared six years ago. She wanted the best future for Hope, and she knew she wouldn't be happy with this, but she would thank her later, once she had friends and a social life. Emily went up to all the teachers, peers, and everyone else Hope would meet at school and told them not to ask about Hope's family, that she didn't like talking about it, and assured them that Hope had two parents but had lost a brother in an accident. And then Hope came home after the first day of school. "How was your day, honey?" Emily had asked, but Hope walked right past her into her room. When Emily came in to check on her, she was met with the word "Why?" She came in to the room to see Hope sitting in a corner. "Why would you do that? Just because he's gone doesn't mean I'm gonna get bullied or something. In fact, you made it worse." Emily left the room.
