Say, a scary situation, he might think someone is following him when no one else is around. Or feel like someone is choking him. It all depends. A mild/happy situation, he might say he hears a family playing in the background.
Esme was a pretty happy kiddo, I mean, his mom was sort of insane, but he had a family. Well, his mom got worse and his dad decided to leave her, so he could raise Esme alone. Well, his mom did nOt like that, so she lashed out, throwing knives at them as the tried to leave. One caught Esme in the face, and that's how he lost his eye. His dad was mad, and after they left they decided to 'move on'. They forgot about Esme's mom for a while. Esme got older, and his dad became more distant. Eventually, he died. Esme's mom had found him and killed him, mostly because she was mad about him leaving. Esme felt empty since his dad was the only person who cared for him. His mom got arrested for 1st-degree murder, and Esme lived his life alone after that. Suffers from severe paranoia, he doesn't trust anyone and has a tendency to ask lots of questions.
