"Ugh." Claire woke up back in the forest with a throbbing head. Was that-that thing real? She saw a trail of lime green slime headed away from her, but other than that, she had no way of knowing. She sat up groggily and realized that this was definitely not the place she had been knocked out. She heard the sound of a river rushing and the smell of blueberries nearby. Usually, she would have not eaten the blueberries, as she absolutely hated the taste of them, but now was not the time to worry about fruits she liked. She hesitantly took the blueberries and ate one. It tasted the same as always, with no flavor whatsoever, but it was all she had. The sting in the back of her throat brought her back to when all was well, when people feared and respected her, when everyone would do everything she wanted. She had had everyone wrapped around her little finger. Where had it all gone wrong? She barely remembered at this point. It had been days, maybe weeks stranded out here alone, and now she was only a hungry, scared girl with a broken leg. There was no one out here to bow to her every whim. No one to immunize her from reality. No one to hide behind. Wow. Even for blueberries, these didn't taste as bad as she remembered, now that she had had a few. Well, anything tasted better when it was the first thing you had to eat in days. She thought of her former best friend, Cara. Cara was just like her in personality and backstory, and they were, in other student's eyes, the meanest girls in the school. Claire liked to think of them as the upper-class of the school instead. She wondered where Cara was. A loud noise brought her back to reality. It sounded like something falling from a high place. Claire went over to investigate. She bent over and saw an unconscious person.
