(Please read Notes and Credits for context. This game sucks, just FYI.) THE REMAKE IS OUT GO GO GO https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/503782167/ You were warned, BIG ONION IS HERE AND IS READY TO WHOOP ANYONE WHO DOES NOT COMPLY Move with arrow keys, jump with up arrow, speak or enter da Jim with down arrow, shoot with space, Sheild with 1, Beam with 2. (Also, exit da Jim with e.) Tomato does not work, only onion is functional. On a side note, Bomb does nothing.
This game is not complete. I am not going to finish it, just look at Big Onion's code to see what I mean. I am currently making a remake from scratch, no pun intended. This game is not salvageable in the slightest, but you can play it for what it is. Here are the problems; The first problem is the sprite pallet. Sense everything is outlined in black, sprites look confusing and are hard to """""animate""""". Also a lot of the sprites look really bad (Onion in particular.) Second, the controls. God, the controls. Onion fires his charm ball in a direction determined by his current sprite. Cool, right? WRONG. THE SPRITE MUST GO THROUGH A FULL WALK CYCLE TO CHANGE DIRECTION. THIS WILL CAUSE ONION TO MOONWALK AND SHOOT BACKWARDS. WORSE STILL, THE JUMP RANDOMLY DROPS ALL MOMENTUM AND CANNOT CHANGE DIRECTIONS MID-AIR. Third, the code is so bad. Like, source spaghetti, legit insane, "how tf did this happen" bad. It would take me a week to fix onion alone. Examples of jank is reviving in general, re-entering a fight, walking when speaking, and absolutely everything being out of sync. Also "Gottem" is a mess and would take so much finagling to get right. (Gottem is the effect you get when The Dookie Monster attacks you. Almost every animation is supposed to be disabled, but they leak in anyways. Also you cant attack, so it's just an artificial soft lock. I didn't really think about how to get him off.) It's sad this game took so long to make. I thought is was the best thing, with gameplay of fighting only bosses, but it turned out to be a mess. I'm not making the final battle with Brock, so I guess the final enemy is Burgy. Kind of anti-climactic. Anyways, I hope that the remake will be far superior. At the time of writing this, it is April 19, 2021. I currently have the start screen, tutorial, intro fight with Brock, Da Jim, Village, and the beginning part of Jay's fight complete. I started working on the remake a day or two before I posted this game, so around early to mid April. I predict that the remake will be released in June-ish. I work on games in class, so the summer time will probably slow production. Also I'm entering high school and it may seem stupid to work on a dumb onion game. Code, Art; piranajoe Most of the characters were either some of my old creations or people I made up on the spot, them being Joe, Jay, Nutter, Broger king casheer, Sticko, The Sheriff, Dookie, Burgy technicaly, it's complicated, and Sr. Cheesestick. Everyone else, mainly all the vegetables, are someone called Asher's idea. He was a guy who drew comics in our engineering class and posted them on the white board. Most of them were pretty eh, so I copied the first one and made it look like my style, thus Big Onion was created. I have remade almost everything he has made, and the comic currently is on a cliffhanger where blueberry accidentally kills onion and Brock with blueberry powers. Asher, if you're reading this, for the love of god please make baby onion 10. It's had the "find out next week" for a year and a half. Music; I stole it. The start screen is from a copyright free playlist, the song is called "Hero Dance Party", Brock's fight is from the starfox 64 slot machine, Da Jim is from the dungeon defenders 2 shop (it's a mobile game, but it slapped hard enough to add it. So I did.), the village is a Tetris track, fight music is also a Tetris track, and Sr. Cheesestick's theme is 8-bit Cowboy Boogie (ew). Stay shrexy my comrades, and remember that Onion Jesus loves you. Thanks for playing this garbage :)
