This program is designed to help 4H kids practice their poultry showmanship holds. It is made for UCONN style showmanship, where all showpersons are lined up at a table. The judge calls out the hold they want to be performed and scores the participants based upon speed and control. The big black text in the center of the screen tells you which hold to perform. The bell icon toggles the chime sound on and off. The speed box adjusts the difficulty level of the program. As the speed number increases, you will have less time to complete each hold. I recommend speed 1 for clovers and novices, 2 for intermediates, and 3 for seniors. (Speed !!! is really, really fast, so if you attempt it, please make sure your bird is safe. It's better to miss a few holds than to go too fast and stress your bird.) The volume button toggles an obnoxious cacophony of random sounds on and off. These sounds will hopefully help acclimate your bird to the chaotic setting of a poultry show. Have fun, and good luck at the show!
This program is good for practicing your holds but does not detail how to perform any of them. If you still need to learn your basic holds, I recommend googling UCONN poultry showmanship. The UCONN site gives an in-depth overview of each hold, along with helpful pictures. They also have some great resources regarding showmanship questions! I highly recommend their recourses to any new 4H kids. The screen that reads “bird by side” may take a few moments to change to your first hold instructions, but it WILL change. The holds are pulled from a randomized list, so some may repeat. If I have made any errors(spelling, grammar, glitches, ect.), or if I have missed any holds, please comment! Thank you for checking out my Virtual Judge program!
