`` Panic! `` Yup. You read it right. E. coli excretions. Also known as E. coli based GFP! Click or press any key to cycle through images. Main account: @FeverGreen ⚠️ Please do not attempt to do any of this without any proper equipment. Despite just being a protein molecule, GFP was still derived from an incredibly dangerous bacterium. Thus, it should be treated with care and respect. GFP should be considered a biohazard just as all chemicals should be. This is an important rule of lab safety.⚠️ I was granted an early internship at a state college because of my passion for chemistry and biology. So, I was able to conduct a CRISPR experiment on some E. coli and produce my own GFP (green fluorescent protein)! GFP is a protein derived from jellyfish that glows when exposed to blue or ultraviolet light. This stuff is absolutely stunning and keeps glowing despite being partially denatured. Conventionally, GFP is used to tag proteins when conducting biotechnological experiments. However, I decided to use some of the useless, expired stuff to make art. If you are interested in learning how to make your own GFP, know that it's an insanely complicated and professional process. Please comment if you are interested. And if you want to use glowy ink, just use lemon juice. It works similarly. It's a pain to go out of your way to extract GFP, as cool as it sounds.
