----------------------------------------------------------------- RESURRECTALE A NEW STORYLINE BY CODENINJA329 ----------------------------------------------------------------- BACKSTORY: Long ago, a human named Frisk fell into the Underground. Driven by a sharp bitterness and the subtle influence of the soul of a malicious human named Chara, Frisk committed genocide, wiping out the entire Underground. In the end, however, Frisk had been painfully shortsighted. Chara came to them in the castle after all the monsters were dead and thanked her for helping with her plan to destroy the universe. Frisk finally saw that she had made a mistake, but it was too late to do anything. Chara destroyed the universe, restoring it only when Frisk gave their SOUL to them. Once the universe had been restored, Frisk went all-out pacifist, determined to fix all that they had done. Sadly, Frisk was again shortsighted, and once the barrier had been destroyed, Chara used Frisk's SOUL and body to commit mass genocide, killing every human and every monster and absorbing every SOUL of those they had killed. In the end, there were only two beings left to kill. They were the two creatures that had chosen to stay on the Underground: Flowey and Gyftrot. Knowing that Chara was coming, Flowey convinced Gyftrot to give its SOUL to Flowey so that he had the emotions to save Frisk from Chara. With Gyftrot's SOUL, Flowey confronted Chara in the Underground. He saw how powerful Chara had grown, but he remembered how Frisk had called out to his SOUL and saved him from his compassionless fate. He called out to Frisk, knowing that they were still there somewhere among the mass of captured SOULs. Hearing his cry, Frisk summoned all the captured SOULs and, with their power, banished Chara from her body, freeing everyone's SOULs from Chara's power. Weakened by the outburst of magic, Chara fled to another universe- taking Frisk's SOUL with them. Without a SOUL in their body, Frisk lacked the DETERMINATION to hold onto the physical world. Feeling Frisk slipping away from him, Flowey called out to the SOULs that had been freed, pleading that they give the last of their DETERMINATION to Frisk, allowing her to maintain her hold on the world even without a SOUL. With the collective DETERMINATION of all the humans and monsters, Frisk was able to live on, but without a SOUL, they couldn't feel love or compassion. Seeing Frisk so broken by what Chara had done and having once had the same done to him, Flowey was filled with vengeance for them and set out to the universe that Chara had ventured to- coincidentally Deltarune. Throughout their journey, Frisk stayed mostly silent and unmoving, but something in her began to awaken. Human SOULs naturally carry and create DETERMINATION, so the human SOULs that gave Frisk their DETERMINATION were just fine, but monsters only have a small amount of natural DETERMINATION, so they gave Frisk everything. Most of the monsters that had given Frisk DETERMINATION had maintained a bond to what they had donated, using it to stay tethered to the physical world. Slowly, more and more monsters became to emerge around Frisk and Flowey as shadows of their former selves. At first, they just followed behind and watched, but eventually, they began interacting with Frisk and Flowey, maintaining fragments of their former personality. Flowey called these ressurections "Specters". One day, a Specter began to tug on the invisible "SOUL chain" that kept it tethered to Frisk, trying to reach something. More Specters began following its example, trying to reach something- or someone- beyond its reach. Being made purely of DETERMINATION, Specters desired nothing more than to have SOULs in their bodies once again. Slowly, the Specters started finding beings they could take down and steal the SOULs of in order to really be alive. Once a Specter stole a SOUL, it could break free of the "SOUL chain" and go off in its own. These corrupted beings with stolen SOULs were given the title "Halfsouls". As more and more Specters morphed into Halfsouls, Flowey began to see that if they were to make it to Chara before all the Specters broke away and Frisk had no DETERMINATION left, they would have to hurry...
