Visiting Tabetha Street a fictional story by astrid ========================================= {disclaimer: this story is a work of fiction. any resemblance to a real person or place is purely coincidental} ========================================= Eva lay on her bed, shocked. "I just moved here, and now someone's going to burn it down?" she thought. The sky was dark outside her window. Flynn had brought her home hours ago, but her heart was still racing with panic. Her metal bedframe creaked as she sat up slowly. "I need to go talk to Flynn." she told herself. She slipped on her sandals and crept down Main Street. At this time of night, the street was in shadows. A candle flickered eerily from Mr. and Mrs. Filbert's window. Eva breathed a sigh of relief when the dirt road winded to the savanna walkway. The tall, dry grass whispered in the night breeze as the twilight sky deepened. Eva raised her hand to knock on the workshop door, then remembered Addam might be awake. She hurried around the back of the cobblestone building and looked for a way up. A large tree with a hefty canopy sat in the center of their back yard. Eva grabbed a knot in the tree trunk and began to climb slowly. After a while, Eva spotted the terrace that lead to Flynn's room. She dropped down onto the wooden planks and knocked quietly on the wooden doors. A high-pitched voice from inside whispered ,"Who's there?" Eva smiled "It's Eva." The doors creaked open. Flynn stepped out and onto the wooden planks. "What do you need at this hour?" he mumbled drowsily. "Aren't you worried about the pillagers?" Eva asked, concerned. Flynn gave a lopsided smile and waved his hand "They've threatened Tabetha Street before. Pillagers haven't set it on fire yet, so I'm assuming we're fine." Eva narrowed her eyes. "You're lying. I can see the worry in your eyes. Tell me the truth. What can we do?" Flynn blinked and tears began to well up in his eyes. "I-I don't know. This is my home. I've never been past that beach. If this village burns down, I'll have nowhere left to go." Eva bit her lip. She turned away from Flynn to face the large tree and huge forest that spanned out in front of her. The leaves seem to dance in the cold wind. Eva closed her eyes and imagined the trees on fire, the crackle of an orange flame, and black billowing smoke trailing in the sky. She grimaced. This was Eva's home too, and if it was in danger, she needed to leave. Flynn walked towards Eva and put his hand on her shoulder. "You okay?" She wrenched her arm away. "I'm fine." Eva sat down on the creaky wooden planks and watched Flynn sit down next to her. She held onto his wrist and muttered "We could run away..." ========================================= heyo everyone, thanks for reading! hope you enjoyed, and ask me any questions! sorry this chapter is kinda short, i'm going to make chapter six really long so i figured we needed a change of pace. {by long i mean there won't be room for this message at the bottom, i've got nothing better to do than write all day}
