Visiting Tabetha Street a fictional story by astrid ========================================= {diclaimer: this story is a work of fiction. any resemblance to a real person or pace is purely coincidental} ========================================= Flynn looked at Eva in shock "I-I can't. What about Addam, and the innkeeper, and Mrs Aggett, and everyone else? they'd be stuck here..." Eva glanced at Flynn as she stood up "If they're smart, they'll leave too." Flynn stared at Eva, then looked away bashfully. "When would we leave?" Eva grinned and said "Oh..I was thinking...tonight." "TONIGHT?!" Flynn yelped, then covered his mouth. "Why?" "I don't want to stick around here for a minute. Go pack your stuff and meet me at the savanna walkway. Pack only what you can carry and no more." The silvery moonlight on Eva's face made her look more serious than she felt. Flynn nodded and headed inside. The leaves rustled in the wind as Eva climbed down the tree and ran toward her house. Her heartbeat spiked with anticipation "Am I really leaving?" she asked herself anxiously. She was so focused on her thoughts that she didn't see Mr and Mrs Filbert until it was too late. Eva smacked into them and fell with a small thud on the dirt road. "Ow", she muttered, rubbing her forehead as she looked up at Mrs Filbert. "I'm so sorry, did I hurt you?" she asked kindly. "Um, I'm okay..." Eva stuttered. Mrs Filbert held out her hand and helped Eva up. "Now, where are you going in such a hurry?" she inquired politely."I...um...I-I have to go!" Eva tore away from the elderly couple and raced towards her house "Wait!" shouted Mrs Filbert called "Is this about the pillagers?" Eva stopped dead in her tracks "Did you say...pillagers?" Mrs Filbert nodded. "H-How did you know?" Mr Filbert chuckled a bit "Word does get around town fast, little miss." Eva's eyes widened. "Me and...some...friends are running away from Tabetha Street tonight. It isn't safe here. Would you like to come with us?" The couple glanced at each other worriedly. Mrs Filbert turned to Eva and smiled halfheartedly "If you think it isn't safe, then we'll gladly come with you." Eva beamed thankfully and told them "Pack only what you need and can carry. Don't bring anything unnecessary. Meet me and Flynn at the savanna walkway at midnight. Good luck!" Eva ran towards her house faster. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The full moon shone down on the ragtag group of travellers as they headed behind the workshop and into the forest behind it. Flynn took one last look at the only home he'd ever known and turned to face Eva. "Where are we going?" Eva looked grimly at the mountains in front of her "As far away from here as we can get." Mr and Mrs Filbert looked at the tall peak anxiously. "Are you sure we'll make it in time? That's an awfully high slope, and we have no idea when the pillagers will attack." Mr Filbert questioned worriedly. Flynn waved his hand "We'll be fine. But we'll need someplace to stay for the night." He scanned the area and noticed a small hollow in the hills. "How about right there? We could dig it out a little bit, and it would make a nice sort of den for us to sleep in." Eva's eyes sparkled. "Perfect! Let's go now!" She ran ahead and began clawing at the sandy dirt with her fingernails. "This will take too long.", she said, looking back at Flynn. "Not with this!" he smiled, pulling a small shovel from his rucksack. A few hours later, the hollow had been dug and Mr and Mrs Filbert were fast asleep in a small divot in the dirt. Eva looked back at them and giggled. She and Flynn were lying in the grass on the hillside. "I couldn't go to sleep for all the wold on a night like tonight. It's too exciting!" Flynn sat up and looked at her. "Exciting? I thought you were scared." Eva flushed and looked the other way "Well, not anymore..." Eva could feel the tug of sleep pulling at her, and she finally gave in and closed her eyes. She woke up to searing heat and a crackling fire in the village below her. "Fire! Fire!" she shouted, and Flynn jolted awake. He ran to the hollow in the dirt and poked Mr Filbert anxiously in the back. "Sir, wake up! Tabetha Street is on fire!" Mr Filbert scrambled out of the hollow and shook his wife awake. "Samantha, Tabetha Street has been raided!" Mrs Filbert woke up slowly as a shriek pierced the air. Eva looked at Flynn worriedly and shouted: "We need to go, now!" Flynn motioned for Mr and Mrs Filbert to run, then began climbing the hill in front of them. When they reached the top of the steep slope, Flynn and Eva sat down. Eva looked at Flynn shakily. "A-Are you still scared?" he asked, feeling dumb. Eva blushed and put her hand on top of his "Not anymore." she smiled. ========================================= The end of chapter six ew, romance, i know, whatever i'm off the cob, or as you say it" corny" deal with it it wasn't as long as I thought, but nobody's asking any questions so i won't bother with a q&a enjoy this trash
